THE SLOVAK GOVERNMENT HAS APPROVED A DRAFT AMENDMENT TO THE WASTE ACT

17. 9. 2020

Several waste management acts will be amended over a short time frame through accelerated legislative procedures. The amendment process was not preceded by a proper inter-ministerial commenting procedure, i.e. third parties were not provided any space to express their opinions. If approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic, it should enter into force as early as on October 1, 2020.

The most important changes contained in the Amendment to the Act:

1. The statutory minimum duration of a contract concluded between a producer responsibility organisation (PRO) and a producer will be two years.

2. Minimum PRO fees will be introduced for collection companies.

3. Contracts between producers and PROs will need to be concluded by October 31.

4. The so-called eco-modulations of prices for producers will be postponed.
