The Government Programme Objectives of the Government of the Slovak Republic were approved for the following four-years-period having set new goals for the sector of waste management. The most discussed topics include supporting the transfer towards a more efficient circular economy and the issue of low levels of the municipal waste recycling. The Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic shall prepare a “roadmap for moving towards circular economy with measures surpassing the waste-issue”.

The aim of the measures set by the Government in its Programme Objectives is to evaluate the environmental expenditures in accordance with the “best value for money” criteria, to reform the Environmental Fund, to engage the long-term unemployed in waste separation, to increase the energy recovery from waste, or to continue increasing of the waste landfill fees.
