Act No. 302/2019 Coll. on the depositing of single-use beverage packaging, as amended, obliges producers placing on the market beverages in single-use packaging for which there is a deposit and distributors distributing beverages in single-use packaging for which there is a deposit to register and to follow the principles of the Depositing Act and the requirements of the system administrator.

Business establishments with areas over 300 square metres are legally obliged to sign up to deposit single-use beverage packaging. Smaller establishments may be involved on a voluntary basis.

The amount of the deposit has been set uniformly at 15 cents. Each packaging placed on the market from 2022 will be marked with a “Z” in the middle of the recycling symbol together with a text saying “ZÁLOHOVANÉ” (“for depositing”). 

The Deposit system administrator is a non-profit organization composed of four associations representing beverage producers and trade representatives – the Slovak Soft Drinks and Mineral Waters Association (AVNM), the Slovak Beer and Malt Producers Association (SZVPS), the Slovak Modern Trade Alliance (SAMO) and the Slovak Trade Association (ZOSR).

The deposit system administrator creates, finances and coordinates the operation of the deposit system in Slovakia.

Applications with the exact identification of the applicant and their e-mail and postal address need to be delivered to the Administrator by 18 May 2021.
