In the context of the pandemic, Parliament approved emergency measures to postpone container deposits to 2023.

The COVID-19 disease has caused many changes, which have also been reflected in the waste sector. The selection procedure for the position of administrator of the deposit system, announced by the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, will not take place at the time planned. Due to the one-year delay, there is time to prepare the whole system more thoroughly. Deposits for PET bottles and cans in Slovakia will start only from 2023.
